We started out our class today with a snack, which I paid for because I forgot to put in a requisition. Can't do that too often. I'll go broke. Anyway, after a brief recap of last week, we jumped right into our subject for today. Shot composition. Mrs. Russell passed composition notebooks out to all the students while Joshua set up the video. I wrote six key elements of shot composition on the board for students to write in their notebooks. They were told to leave room for definitions, which would come from the video. Then we showed the video: Students took notes. We repeated the video, pausing and explaining sometimes in more detail. After practicing for 10 minutes, we went back inside and watched a video for the first time that we will probably spend more time on soon. The video, Candyman by Zedd and Aloe Blacc, is a great example of a number of production elements that we might want to understand better. Our class ended with an encouragement to review the notes through the week. This site will be the place to review what we did and find the details for any homework.
